Husky Bros. A Portland Sized Beginning

Anuk Says:

So this week Tuuq and I are jumping on to introduce our newest family member, Portland! I know right, I’m thrilled to bits! No, I’m seriously you geyes. No sarcasm, I love this little geye. His start to life was pretty rough, but that just goes to his toughness. And that is something I can instantly admire and respect in the little dude. Mum and Dad said that most doggo docs they have taken him to are surprised he is still with us. Speaks volumes, it really does. Now he is still under 4 months old, so plenty of teeef in his play and he does like to hang onto my fur for a ride, but he’s learning, he gets another week before I start sorting him out.

Tuuq Says

Anuk, channelling his inner Cartman. Seriously dude. No one missed that. You can see how he see’s himself in the character though right?! You can tots see Anuk walking around going, I’m not fat, I’m just big furred. Anyway, Portland is a cool dude. The Larry to Curly & Moe, the final D to evolve 2D into 3D, the trilogy complete and the little brother I’ve never had. He’s pretty little at the moment, but Dad says he’s got long legs like I did when I was little. My speed title in the house may be challenged. This I will have to monitor.

Portland Says:

I luv stick! I luv ball! I luv rope! I luv FOOD! I luv swims! I luv grass! I luv rock! I luv lots! But Iz also luv my big brovers and my Mummy and Daddy! So much!

Anuk Says:

Maybe Lil Dude shouldn’t have the mic just yet. And, forever, on record, his first written sentence is ‘I luv stick!’. That’s coming out at his 2 year! Portland has a few issues like I did when I was his age. His story from rescue to forever home is common and unique at the same time, in that his path to surrender is common, but what he went through isn’t. Starts with humans having puppies that shouldn’t be allowed to, then being exposed to conditions that would make any dog sick let alone a tiny puppy. Then another, well intentioned but ill educated human, purchases Portland from these humans as he is becoming very ill. Huskies are not a dog that humans should ‘try’ as their first if they haven’t done their research into us. We are a lot of work. All the time. All of our lives. Having a sick puppy on top is plenty rough, for everyone, humans and puppy alike.

Tuuq Says

Bahaha! ‘I luv stick’ is golden, glad this wasn’t around when I was coming up! Anuk’s right but. We are a lot of work. Did you know Dad had to cement sandstone boulders into the base of our whole fence at home to stop me escaping? That for fun, I’ll deliberately and methodically grab the base of each fence stick, Dad calls them palings when he’s telling me off for it, and rip up to see if I can tear them off and get out to explore? So far Dad has replaced more than half of the back yard. And yes, it’s a very big backyard. I get called Red Raptor for it. Mum said it’s from a movie called Jurassic Park. Something called Raptors test out their fence for weakness, she explains. Didn’t know I was so popular. They should call them Grey Tuuqs. Makes more sense than calling me Red Raptor.

Portland Says:

My mouf iz sore. Mum says it’s cause my teef are coming in! Not sure but. I’ve seen teef coming out, but nots coming in! Hope that’s normal. Mum and Dad says it iz. Nook and Tuuq says its not but? Mum says they are jus bein’ mean. I’ll gets them. Deez lil teef that come out are still sharp and I don’t know any better!

Anuk Says:

Tuuq left out that usually there is a human curse word before the utterance of ‘Red Raptor’. Three guesses; it rhymes with ‘trucking’. Guaranteed, I can destroy anything, anything I want, Tuuq will get the blame. Sometimes I’ll just steal a sock, tear it up on Tuuq’s bed, grab some food and curl up and watch the show! At least once a week. It’s just what the eldest does for fun, and it’s SO MUCH FUN. But back to Portland. After he got sick his new family took him to the dog doc to get well and found out he was so sick they couldn’t afford to make him well again. So they decided what’s best for him was to send him to this awesome group of humans at the RSPCA. They found that Portland didn’t have long to live. Mum said he had something that made is stomach ridiculously sick. She said it was so bad he had to have something called a blood transfusion so he didn’t die. Poor lil dude.

Tuuq Says

Yeah man that’s really sad. Poor guy. He’s so sweet too. Couldn’t imagine life without him now. Three of us just works! RSPCA did a great job at getting him well and moving him to another awesome group called SHAMROQ. They rescue dogs like us Huskies and find forever homes for them. Dad said it’s where all our friends have come from recently! Like Anuk had when he was very little, Portland has something Mum calls Resource Guarding for his food. Basically means he goes ballistic around it and you’d better not go near him when he’s eating either. Dude would murder someone for half a biscuit! But he’s heaps better now. Mum has spent so much time with him on it. Doesn’t try and steal our food after he is finished now, he just sits and waits. He doesn’t get murderously cranky when humans or doggos go near him either. But Mum says he still has a long way to go. He still growls a fair bit when you touch him whilst he is eating. But we all teach him to just chill. Like we did with Phoenix, we ain’t here to steal your food lil bro!

Portland Says:

I’m nots so sure what Nook and Tuuq are talkin’ bout. But, I’m pretty sure its about my start to life. Mummy and Daddy explained as bes they could what happened to me. Why I was so sick. But, Iz ok. I can’t member too much of it. I member not feelin well and bein’ scared a bit. I’ll forever luv the Humans that looked after me! But now, I don’t care one bit about what happened to me before! Now Iz found the bestest family ever to luv me! I hav a Mummy and Daddy that’s teachin’ me heaps, protecting me from scary things, showing me things not to be sacred of. A-Nook to cuddle up to when it’s cold, Tuuq to play with. I gets to sleep with them, come to work them, we are never a part! I’ve been exploring everywhere, meeting heaps of new doggos and humans. Even mini humans, they are coolz. Even though I started out ruff. Iz safe! Iz happy! Iz luvd! No one can beez az happy az me!
